A number of Collingwood Harriers (mainly juniors) participated in the first two days of the Championships at Albert Park.

There have been a few medals gained in these early stages, with other athletes progressing to finals to be conducted later in the program. Quite a number of PBs were also posted.

Two golds so far!

Firstly, Claudia Cameron, in her first competition for the Club was successful in the Under 14 Triple Jump, scraping in by just one centimetre with a leap of 10.30m. Claudia has only just joined in the last couple of weeks, specifically for these titles – still under 14 next season – could be handy!!

Dale Carroll won the Under 20 3000m Steeplechase in only his second try at the event! His effort gained Dale the Club Under 18 record (birthday next week!!) and this performance has topped off a great month for this very promising athlete (see later report).

Silver medals were won by Isabella Simonelli (U/17 Discus and Javelin), Emily Noonan (U/18 5000m walk), Erin Rusic (U/18 Pole Vault) and Ellie McKenzie (under 16 Pole Vault), while Elena Mitchell grabbed a Bronze (U/20 Pole Vault).

Ace Buck (U/17 1500m), Simone Maillardet (U/15 1500), Dale Carroll (U/20 1500m), Tomas Fedele (U/18 110m hurdles), Ellie McKenzie (U/16 90m hurdles) and Chiara Santiglia and Mia Roux, (both in the Under 15 400m) have all made finals to be run on Sunday 26th. Sunny Spencer and Lucy Leutchford repeated the dose, also progressing to the final of the U/16 400m, with a one-two finish in the first heat of their age division.

Ellie’s performance in the Vault was only her fourth competitive outing in the event. A huge PB of 2.80m (45cm improvement) saw her just 5cm shy of the Club record.

Wolfgang Cotra Nemesi finished 8th in the under 14 1500m in a five second PB of 4:50.11, while Amber Louw knocked another ten seconds of her best ever time recorded in the Shield Final earlier in the month, when she ran 5:08.96 in the women’s under 14 1500m.
