Tom HOWAT

Tom was a champion distance runner for the Club prior to the Second World War. He excelled in both and cross-country and won five consecutive Club 5 Mile CCC from 1932 -1936.

Tom’s other sporting love was croquet. He dominated this sport at club, state and national level from the 1950s to the late 80s. Heavily involved in the coaching of younger players, Tom was also an official of the Victorian Croquet Association. He was considered to be the leading authority on croquet in Australia.

Tom’s achievements in croquet were recognised in the mid seventies when he was inducted into the Australian Sports Hall of Fame.

Tom passed away at the age of 82 on March 7th 1995.
