The first AV event of the new season saw some mixed results for Collingwood Harriers with our ladies certainly producing the goods with four podium placings.

Our only Gold came from our under 18 girls when Simone Maillardet, Sunny Spencer and Lucy Leutchford recorded a comfortable win in their division.

The Divvy 1 ladies had a most compelling tussle in the top grade, but had to settle for the Silver after a ‘seesawing’ race. The team was led off by newcomers Tammy Quinn and Henrietta Lawrence with Collingwood in front after two legs. Erchana Murray Bartlett, Bev Thomas and Virginia McCormick gave their all, but the team, in this case, had to be satisfied with second place on the day. A great season awaits!

Three ladies having their first runs with the Club teamed up to grab another second placing in Divvy 5. Katie Cipa, Kylie Johnson and Nadiah Abdulrahim have certainly set a pretty high standard for their future careers!

And Evie Rosa was joined by another two debutantes, Jessie Moyses and Anna McKenzie-McHarg with a third place the result in Divvy 4.

Our men’s teams did not quite have the success of the women placing wise, however there was enough to suggest that with the addition of the runners unavailable this week, the upcoming events should see some very good results by our boys.

Fourth place was the best we could manage on the day. Our under 14 boys were responsible for one of these when Fab Aguiard and Andre Maillardet were joined by newcomer Thierry Aughterson, while at the other end of the spectrum our 50+ team of Paul Viney, Peter Gaunt and Chris Waldron achieved a similar place in their division.

We had a total of thirteen new runners on the day, along with another four making a return to the Black and White after a break of various duration from one to ‘twenty-eight years’. Welcome back Anders Michelsson – it’s been quite a while!
